Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:00 p.m. in CVC Performance Hall “Celebration of Life” for Russ Benzamin Cedar Valley College will be hosting a Celebration of Life ceremony for Russ Benzamin to honor his impact on the CVC Music Department and the hundreds of students who passed through it under his leadership. Russ was the founding faculty member and coordinator for the Commercial Music Department from 1977-1989. He continued to teach as an adjunct for us through last spring. Russ passed away on Sept. 8 at age 80. We will have live performances by the CVC Lab Band, the CVC Family Music Theatre singers, the Joe Cardinelli group, and possibly other professional musicians who will be in attendance. We will also be showing a photo slide show, and a video from a commercial faculty recital in 1983 that is awesome! The closing number, as requested by the family, is Sir Duke. We have a big band arrangement, so any horn players in the audience are welcome to come up and sit in please!!! If you knew Russ, studied with him, or just want to learn more about the origin of the CVC Music Department, please join us at 3:00 on Saturday, Oct. 4. Thank you.
