Saturday night I saw The Imitation Game imdb/title/tt2084970/ at San Marco Theatre. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, wow. Based on fact, the story of Alan Turing, an Englishman who in WWII cracked the Nazi Enigma code. But theres so much more to the story. Its heartbreaking and enthralling, with an excellent, intelligent screenplay and remarkable performances, especially by Cumberbatch, and Keira Knightley whose character, like Turing, is a square peg but does a better job of fitting into the round hole ascribed to women. The lunch scene explains much about Turing and is simultaneously hilarious and sad. Cumberbatch does quirky roles but makes them his own (check out Sherlock on PBS Masterpiece Theatre, and a few mainstream releases. Google him if you dont know; Im not giving away anything else). I do hope that PBS will record and air his Hamlet for those of us who didnt get a ticket to the instantly sold-out UK limited run.
