Saturdays Street Festival - the South Valley Festival - this year, - TopicsExpress

Saturdays Street Festival - the South Valley Festival - this year, as in past years, was a wonderful extravaganza of local food, music and fun. It was especially wonderful to try the Levons classic and special sugar cakes and the sweet bread and cakes we associate with the South Valley community. The soups and stews, vegetarian and meat filled were outstanding and those natural fruit juices are to wait for. Star fruit, tamarind, sour sop, maube, sorrel, mango and all locally grown! Very cool! The most joyful and extraordinary moment of the festival for me though was meeting and chatting with Anguilla’s centenarian Mrs. Ursilla Connor. It was an honour and privilege to be photographed with the grandmother of our friend and brother “Rastaman”. Mrs. Connor is as beautiful as ever and very much the strong matriarch - her face says it all. She is the quintessential Anguilla woman and we pray that God will grant her many more years with us. I am especially looking forward to her upcoming birthday on the 29th of August 2014 when she will be celebrating her 101st birthday. Hopefully this birthday will be another opportunity to celebrate Anguilla’s accomplishments and our many successes. Her contribution to Anguilla’s development is legendary as is her story telling says her Grand Niece Paula Richardson. Mrs. Connor’s commitment to Anguilla, her love for her family and her community are evident in her stories. We have so much to learn from her. Her smile will inspire women all over. Life is beautiful! May God bless her and her family always.
