Saturdays lyrical puzzler (11/22/2014): Well, my mama died and left me, my papa died and left me, I aint good lookin, baby, but Im somewhat sweet and kind, Im going to the country, baby, do you wanna go?… *********** Fridays lyrical puzzler (11/21/2014): A lady doesnt leave her escort, it isnt fair, it isnt nice, a lady doesnt wander all over the room, and blow on some other guys dice… Answer: Luck Be a Lady, from Guys and Dolls, 1950 Fun fact: Frank Loesser, who wrote lyrics to more than 700 songs between 1940-1970 (including the classics Baby Its Cold Outside and Heart and Soul), wrote both lyrics and music to the 14 songs in the 1950 Tony-winning Broadway production Guys and Dolls, including Luck Be a Lady. In 1955, the play was made into a hugely successful film musical starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. Eventually, Luck Be a Lady became a signature song in concert for Sinatra, who never released it as a single, but it appeared as an album track in 1965. The song has been recorded by dozens of artists over the years, and Sinatra recorded it again with The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde on his Duets II album in 1994 shortly before he died.
