Saudi Arabia: Government Looks To Team With Yemeni Tribes To Confront Militants Saudi Arabia is working to form new alliances in Yemen following the fall of Sanaa to al-Houthi fighters, an official Yemeni source said, Al-Quds al-Arabi reported Oct. 1. The same day, activists said Islamic State fighters beheaded nine Kurdish fighters who were captured in the fighting, Ynet News reported. In a rare move, U.S.-led airstrikes were launched during the day Oct. 1 on a town just 4 to 5 kilometers (2 to 3 miles) southeast of Ayn al-Arab, Reuters reported. Syrian opposition groups and religious leaders have called for a stop to fighting across the country in observance of the upcoming Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, but it is unclear if the calls will be heeded, Ynet news reported.
