“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4) It is not - TopicsExpress

“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4) It is not uncommon to see people deliberately causing others trouble, even persecuting them – out of sheer spite. This happens mostly over property matters, where they fight it out for years in court, even though in reality they may not have need of it. They may be egged on by lawyers and bootleg friends to teach someone a lesson. Saul had overseen the killing of many of the followers of Jesus. He now decides to go to the other places to persecute them. When Jesus says these words to him as he approaches Damascus, Jesus confirms that anyone who persecutes his redeemed does it also to him. There may be occasions when we too are self-righteous and play the role of accuser, judge and executioner all rolled into one. When we do this, it is almost as if we don’t believe that God knows everything. We doubt whether he is a powerful enough to set things right on his own. That is not the behaviour God expects of us. We forget that Jesus gave his life for each and every person on earth. Everyone is dear to him, as he shed his blood to make each one of us his own. Jesus make it very clear to all the Sauls among us that when we persecute anyone, we directly persecute him. FRUIT: I will remember that whatever I do – good or bad – to anyone, I do it to Jesus.
