Savannah Fire & Emergency Services as well as the majority of - TopicsExpress

Savannah Fire & Emergency Services as well as the majority of departments across the country will operate in the same manner. In the City of Savannah, not all the fire trucks carry water. Heavy rescues and certain truck companies dont carry any water due to the fact, thats what the engine companies are for. Heavy rescues and truck companies have other jobs on the fire ground that include but not limited to search and ventilation. For example, if Engine 3 from the Oglethorpe station is on a call on River Street and a car fire comes in on Broughton Street, the next closest engine company will be sent. Ideally, this would be Engine 5 just south of Forsyth Park. However, Rescue 1 could be in quarters at the Oglethorpe station and not be sent due to the fact, they carry no water. Remember, this is just an example. The information from the caller and protocols will dictate who and what is sent when and where. If the caller says the car fire is close to a building, you will get three to four engines, one truck, one rescue and three support vehicles. When large incidents are happening, Battalion Chiefs will relocate available companies around the City of Savannah to maintain a quick response at all times.
