Save human lives: Mian Altaf asks wildlife authorities 1.38 lakh cft timber for North Kashmir consumers, sale commenced SRINAGAR, JULY 16: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, MianAltaf Ahmad has asked the officers of wildlife department to take necessary safety measures to prevent attacks by wild animals on people. The Minister was taking stock of the recent man-animal conflict incidents that occurred in North Kashmir, particularly at Hail, Hareshnar, Dowlatabad and Kharchar areas falling under Sangrama Constituency at a meeting here. MLA, Sangrama Syed Basharat Bukhari, Chief Wildlife Warden, A.K.Singh and other senior officers of Forest Department were present on the occasion. It was given out that department is monitoring the situation closely and all necessary measures have been taken to check these incidents. The department has taken the services of local hunters for the purpose while combing operation is going on in the affected areas, it was said. The meeting was told that ex gratia of Rs. 4 lakh stands disbursed among 4 families who have lost their family members in recent man-animal conflict incidents within the jurisdictions of Forest Circle North. MLA also raised other development issues of the constituency which included development of Hygam Rakh, removal of illegal encroachment at Ningli Nallah, widening of road leading to Hygam wetland, release of funds for construction of rest house in the constituency besides making adequate timber available on forest sale depots. It was informed that 1.38 lakh cft timber is targeted to be distributed among the consumers in north circle during current fiscal against which 24000 cft have been stocked so far while as sale of timber has been started from this month.
