Saw a film last night that illustrates my contention that if a work of art depends on words to complete it, then it is crippled. A young girl submits an old racist poster to an art class. When the student explains that her intent was to show that racism still exists, but is now just more hidden, the teacher says its brilliant. I thought at the time, how can anyone know this by looking at the piece? So when the piece is shown at the school art exhibit the viewers demand its removal. The young girl did not attend, and could not explain her intent as her teacher had wanted. Ghost World, 2001
