Say farewell to Sausage again :-) What a star he has been. He first came to us last Winter having had a head injury and was found circling in the car park at Paradise Park. He was left with haemorrhaging behind his eyes, and was not releasable as his vision was impaired. In care he constantly circled but always maintained and gain weight, which many hogs do not. We tried him in our disabled garden, which is a massive walled garden where we have some male hogs with either sight or behavioural issues. This is not suitable for all hogs like this, but we wanted to see how he coped. He did really well and was out all Summer and Autumn, but came back in a fortnight ago having damaged his eye. He was still over 900g and very fit and well. Sadly the eye needed removing, but that in itself was unlikely to affect him too much. Thank you to Claire at Henley House Vets who operated on our special hog as she called him. He has healed beautifully. We had to set up this special pen for him due to his circling behaviour in care, with puppy pads on the floor to protect his feet, and the logs and other bits in there to allow him to orientate himself and to stop him circling so much. He loved his food as always, and leaves us to go home today weighing 100g more than 2 weeks ago :-) Thank you to Tim and Karen who look after these special boys for us in their amazing garden and make sure they get any extra help they may need. But they live as wild and are doing great
