Say hello to the newest shark residents in the Scott Aquarium: three blacktip reef sharks. These three amigos can be found in the cownose ray and bonnethead shark display of the exhibit, but the species overall can be spotted throughout the oceans Indo-Pacific region. These powerful swimmer are named for the signature black tips on their dorsal and caudal fins. Blacktip reef sharks are considered near threatened in the wild due to overfishing and habitat degradation. While not a target species, these sharks are often caught by inshore fisheries and used for human consumption and liver oil.
