Says Council President Steve Brandau regarding the 2035 General - TopicsExpress

Says Council President Steve Brandau regarding the 2035 General Plan for the City of Fresno, CA that had the most community engagement (including under-represented people in the community) in the history of planning in Fresno. We have invested $1.16 billion in the Fresno metropolitan area to make traveling around extremely easy [by vehicle on our freeways]. Now we are supposed to forsake that investment because some pansy in Sacramento thinks we need to live closer together and ride the bus?...That said, this general plan is still focused on high-density infill development that is diametrically opposed to the free market. That Free Market in Fresno has contributed in taking Fresno from what was once the destination for the Hollywood actor to now having the lowest household median income in California and one of the highest unemployment rates and poverty levels. Fresno has one of the lowest revenues per capita for government services. Fresno leads California in number of freeway lane miles per capita. Fresno leads the nation in poor air quality, childhood obesity, asthma, and a number of other chronic health diseases. Fresno has more pedestrian fatalities than San Francisco. Fresno leads the state in DUI arrests. Fresno often finds itself on the Bottom Ten list for most national surveys. Fresno was one of the hardest hit regions in America during the recession and is one of the slowest to experience recovery. Hmmm...maybe that investment of $1.16 billion in freeways was not the best socially engineered investment for the needs of the community.
