Scenes from the Syria peace talks in Montreux: Amid the tangled electric cords and discarded coffee cups littering the press center, Ahmed Kamel, a former journalist and member of the Syrian National Council, spotted an old friend. Its important that we show that we can get along, he said, holding out his hand. HIs friend, who arrived with the large delegation of journalists from pro-government media, shook his hand warmly. Of course, he said. Weve known each other for a long time. They used to travel together on official trips when both were journalists, before the Syrian conflict began, before Mr. Kamel fled the country. But the pro-government journalist didnt linger. And he didnt want his name mentioned as someone who had shook hands with an opposition figure.
