Scholarships ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE 2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR The Kingdom of Belgium, in cooperation with The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, The Ministry of Health, The Ministry of Education and Sports, The Ministry of Water and Environment will award bilateral SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2014/2015. The Belgian Government provides scholarships for Masters, Bachelors and Short Training Programmes at Local, Regional, and Belgian universities. Positive discrimination towards female students will be pursued and candidates working upcountry (especially Districts in the Hard to Reach/work areas) will be given priority. Studies at reputable universities in Uganda will be funded. 1. Who can apply for a scholarship? 1.1. For Master studies: Ugandan national, do not exceed 35 years old on 30/6/2014, have a Bachelors Degree, the course is relevant to your work and you have a minimum of 2 years working experience. You have a valid letter of admission to the relevant university by the 31st of July 2014 and have the written authorization of your employer and a letter of guarantee of employment after completing the studies. 1.2. For Bachelor studies (Health Workers and TVET institutions only): Ugandan national, do not exceed 35 years old on 30/6/2014, have an A-level certificate, a higher diploma or an equivalent in the field you are requesting. You have a letter of admission to the relevant university by 31st of July 2014, have the written authorization of your employer and a letter of guarantee of employment after completing the studies. 1.3. For Short Training Programmes / Region/Uganda): Ugandan national, the course is relevant to your work, and does not exceed a study period of 6 months. You have the written authorization of your employer and a letter of guarantee of employment after completing the studies, and a valid letter of admission to the relevant programme. 2. For which training programme can I apply? Programmes listed below are legible for funding. Applicants must be ready to start the course during the year of award of the scholarship and NOT later. 2.1. Priority Masters and Bachelors courses for funding under the Health Sector. Masters Courses: Anaesthesia, Pathology, Community Practice (family medicine), Psychiatry, Neuro-Surgery, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Oral Facial Maxilla Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Urology, Neurology, Biostatistics & Epidemiology, Health Service Management, Health Policy, Planning and Management, Health Economics, Health Curriculum Development. Bachelors Courses: Human Medicine (MBchB), Biomedical Engineering, ICT, Pharmacy and Nursing, Palliative Care. 2.2. Priority courses for funding under the Education Sector Masters Courses: English Language and Literature in English, Pure Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) Special Needs Education, Information, Communication and Technology, Guidance and Counselling, Sport Science and Physical Education, Petroleum Studies, Food Technology and Nutrition, Engineering (irrigation, Civil, Electrical, Water, Mechanical) Procurement Management, Education management and Planning, curriculum management, Architecture, Entrepreneurship, Manufacturing, Microfinance and Small Business Development, Public Health and Management Bachelors Level (TVET Institutions only): Bachelor of Science in Engineering fields (Mechanical, Civil, Water and Electrical), Medical Education, Health Personnel Training. 2.3. Priority courses for funding under the Environment Sector Masters Courses: Catchment and Watershed Management, Community Development Studies, Biodiversity Management, Water Resources Management, Water and Civil Engineering, Climate Change, Meteorology, Policy Development and Compliance. Short courses: Oil and gas studies, Waste water management and auditing, Climate Change – Adaptation and Mitigation, International Negotiations. Courses applied for MUST be directly related to the sectors and the themes of Bilateral Development Cooperation in the new Indicative development cooperation programme signed in April 2012. These are: Primary Health care and PNFP Education and training Environment with particular focus on climate change. 3. How and when can I apply for the scholarship? Applicants can obtain application forms (PDF, 73.76 Kb) for the academic year 2014 /2015 from the website of the Embassy of Belgium; diplomatie.be/kampala and the website of the Belgian Development Agency; btcctb.org. They are only available on these websites. Filled in application forms should be returned latest Friday 27th June 2014 at 12:00pm to the following addresses: Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium Rwenzori Towers,06th floor, Nakasero Road P.O. Only candidates complying with the criteria should apply for a scholarship. b. Do not send your application by e-mail. Only Hand Delivered applications will be accepted. c. Only complete files shall be accepted, the following documents MUST be attached; Copy of birth certificate Copy of valid identity card Copy of degree transcripts Employers recommendation to apply for scholarship Employers guarantee of employment after studies Copy of appointment letter and posting instructions by relevant authorities If available, valid admission letter from the university d. All applicants should be willing to sign the Government of Uganda (GoU) bonding agreement and to work for a period equivalent to the scholarship period. Names of short listed candidates will be published on the websites above by 21st July 2014. Interviews will commence on the 28th of July 2014. The Final Results of the selected candidates will be published on the above websites by the 15th August 2014.
