School/districts often practice conducting a "multi-disciplinary" - TopicsExpress

School/districts often practice conducting a "multi-disciplinary" assessment/evaluation, which touches on several areas of need and includes many tests and subtests such as Speech, Social-Emotional, Behavior, Academic, etc. the problem with this is, not one of these areas are evaluated in a comprehensive and thorough manner in this type of assessment. Assessments that you may need to ask for might include: Social Emotional Social Skills (building and maintaining relationships) Functional Behavioral (FBA) Visual process (not the ability to hear, but how the brain and the eyes work together...may affect focus, reading, eye contact) Auditory processing (not the ability to hear, how the brain and the hearing system work together..ie. covering ears, not attending to auditory cues, oversensitivity or undersensitivty to sounds, etc.) Vocational Speech and language (not just the abililty to speak, but the ability to communicate non verbal, and social use of language ie. non verbal cues ) When an assessment plan is provided to you (within 15 days by law) make sure you read the assessment plan carefully, and it includes the areas and concerns you have for each area. Preferably have someone well versed with these procedures to review for you before you sign..
