Schoolgirls’ Abduction: BORNO WOMEN TO STORM SAMBISA FOREST Women in Borno State have indicated their willingness to go into the notorious Sambisa Game Reserve Forest, the enclave of the outlawed Boko Haram sect, to seek the release of the abducted schoolgirls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok. Sambisa Forest, a large expanse of land, is where most of the deadly attacks of the Boko Haram insurgency are hatched and where the abducted schoolgirls are believed to be held hostage. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the women, consisting of a coalition of various women associations in the troubled state, said, “We are ready to go into the bush and appeal to the Boko Haram sect to release our children to us.” Led by Prof. Hauwa Biu, the women said they were only waiting to be led by the military into the notorious forest. They said they could volunteer several thousands of women to go into the forest and bring their daughters, who were abducted over a week ago, to reunite with their families. The women, who were all dressed in black gowns and head-ties and wore mournful look throughout the period of the press conference, said if the parents, who went into the bush earlier to look for the abducted schoolgirls, had been given security shield, the girls would have been reunited with their families. They said, “What stopped the security men on the ground from giving security backup to the parents to go further into the bush?” They also accused President Goodluck Jonathan of not doing enough to see the girls freed from their abductors. They insisting that had the daughter of the President been abducted, the whole country would have caught fire. They said, “Is the President telling us that the lives of over 200 girls abducted in the bush since a week ago are not important.”
