Schools by and large do teach conformity and obedience much more than they advocate for critical thinking and creativity! The massive school testing obsessions throughout the US are evidence to this and of course the labeling that is part of the school programs! Even though some will say this has gotten better it really has not. I have been involved in alternative education movements now for over 30 years and both of my daughters are involved in the public education system currently as teachers and social workers and they are very dismayed at what they see daily in the public schools (anti social behaviors, procedures that actually work against the children more than they help the children, substandard curriculums, teacher burnout, etc....) !! Real education comes from our daily encounters and experiences.
