Schools seek extra funds for security ISLAMABAD - The Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) has constituted a security monitoring team for school & colleges in CADD under the headship of Senior Joint Secretary Rukhsana Rehman that will submit a report regarding necessary measures of security that are required to be taken urgently. Minister of State for CADD Barrister Usman Ibraheem chaired a high-level meeting regarding beefing up of security of educational institutions on Tuesday in which secretary CADD, IGP Islamabad, chief commissioner ICT and DG Federal Directorate of Education participated. To boost the confidence of children and parents it was decided that IGP Islamabad will set-up additional lines for Rescue 15 so that this helpline will be immediately available. It was also decided that CADD would call a meeting of all the principals of colleges and schools and the IGP would brief them about tactical measures of security. Moreover, the IGP will constitute a team consisting of inspectors and DSPs who would visit assembly sessions of schools and sensitise the students regarding security measurements; and they will also brief them how to react if God forbid, any emergency comes. All schools and colleges will designate their own security officers who will remain in contact with local administration and law enforcement agencies. The monitoring team of CADD will verify all the credentials of staff and security guards of schools to combat the threat of internal links, if there is any rat inside. The DG FDE will provide a checklist to chief commissioner of ICT and that check list will be having complete report of number of gates, present condition and number of walls, guards & barriers etc. More so, all gate keepers of schools will be given a drill by Islamabad police to combat any emergency. It was also decided that CADD may hire security personnel if needed. But administrations of schools and colleges maintain that they need extra budget to take security measures. Only a few colleges have installed CCTV cameras and many posts of security guards are vacant, according to officials. “Many schools do not have boundary walls and those who have are not very high. Average height of walls around educational institution is 6 to 8 feet that is not enough to protect the buildings, especially those established on sloppy areas.” They say that without extra budget and manpower they cannot maintain foolproof security at educational institutions. Islamabad police have devised a strategy to improve the security of the schools with the cooperation of their respective administration and through special briefings to the students. It was stated by the Inspector General of Police, Tahir Alam Khan, while talking to media at the inaugural ceremony of a reporting room at Secretariat Police Station. SP (City) Rizwan Gondal, DSP Secretariat Bashir Ahmed Noon, DSP (City) Muhammad Ashraf Shah, SHO Secretariat Police Station Nawaz Bhatti, SHO Aabpara Police Station Khalid Mehmud Awan and other police officials were also present on the occasion. The IGP stated that special attention was being paid to improve the security of the schools and school administrations had been conveyed to appoint a security officer, security guard and watchman in their respective schools. He also stated that Islamabad police would also impart special training to them. The IGP further said that 20 officers of inspector rank had been assigned duties to brief the students in schools during their assembly congregations as how to deal with emergency situation and ensure safety. He added that special lectures would be delivered to boost the morale and courage of the students with focus as how to observe and handle critical situations. He also informed that special rooms had been established for meetings of complainants with police officials to discuss their problems and eligible police officers would be deputed to serve public. Tahir Alam Khan informed that security of Islamabad had been enhanced and search operations were being conducted to ensure arrests of the suspects. He also stated that the purpose of establishing model-reporting rooms was to enhance liaison with public on immediate basis and win their confidence.(The Nation) Like · · Share
