Science Project Hey Guys check this out! Have you heard? there is a newly formed island in Nishinoshima, Japan. Coast guard footage shot on Wednesday showed heavy black smoke and clusters of rocks exploding out of the sea to form a tiny island near the Ogasawara Islands, about 621 miles to the south of Tokyo. According to an advisory issued by the coast guard, the new islet is about 200 meters, or 650 feet, in diameter. Ash and smoke continued to erupt out of the crater, with the smoke reaching a height of almost 600 meters. Its last eruption was November 2013. By 20 December 2013, the island had grown fast enough that experts predicted that it would probably join up with Nishinoshima before the end of 2013, and cease to be a separate island. On 26 December 2013, the Japanese Coast Guard confirmed that the two islands had joined. Recently Volcanic lava flows are presently reported to be most active now on the south end of the island. The volcano was still active as of August 26, 2014.
