Science has finally caught up with what we’ve all been saying for years – beer really is good for you. That’s according to Dr Stephan Domenig, medical director of The Original F.X. Mayr Health Centre in Austria, “If you analysed beer you would be amazed at how many super-nutrients there are in it!” It is high in vitamins, calcium and amino acids, low in sugar compared with fizzy drinks and research suggests it can even help prevent Alzheimer’s. Studies have also suggested that moderate beer drinking can help prevent diabetes and heart disease. A study of almost 2,000 regular drinkers by the University of London even concluded that moderate drinking won’t make you gain weight. Taking it one stage further, model Elle ‘The Body’ McPherson even washes her hair with it as it supposedly adds lustre, increases volume and fortifies the hair from within. Let’s all celebrate down the pub – Doctor’s orders!
