Scientific supporter, philanthropist, and engineer Fred Kavli has passed away at the age of 86. After running a successful business as an aeronautical sensor supplier, he sold the business to start a nonprofit science advocacy organization. In 2000, The Kavli Foundation was born. In 2008, the Kavli Prize was established. Prizes are given every two years in astrophysics, nanoscience, and neuroscience. The prize consists of a scroll, a medal, and $1,000,000.
