Scientists at Stamford University in the US under the revolutionary Barrack Obama initiative for the 21st Century into neuroscience research have identified the possibility of mapping all sorts of electrical activity and neurone pathways without having to cut into the brain tissue. It will eventually be some form of ultra scan that will enable us to see this level of detail, having the potential to identify disease processes thus potential cure of debilitating diseases and autism. This might take several decades to come to fruition the point being they have had the foresight to start now. Researchers have identified the skills needed will be in the areas of math, physics, chemistry and biology. This caused me to reflect upon our current Gonski research findings and how important it is that Australia address our known educational gaps NOW to ensure we are not only competitive in the future but also make our contribution to mankind.
