Scientists at the University of Massachusetts found that people who watch TV during a meal consume, on average, 288 more calories than those who don’t eat with the tube on. We have a feeling that eating while staring at your smartphone might have a similar result. Instead, try eating mindfully – truly enjoying each bite – instead of eating your meal on autopilot. In fact, according to a study at the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University (which sounds like an awesome place to work), those who chewed their food 50% more ate 9.5% less. It might not sound like much, but eating 10% less at each meal can add up fast! Have you found you eat more without realizing it when watching TV?
