Scores of militant farm-attacks with military weaponry around Erasmia, Lanseria airport area: We live on a farm near Lanseria airport – Johannesburg. Erasmia police station is our nearest. We fall under the Pretoria (“Tswane”) municipal area. Last Friday night at 8:30pm while watching a movie at home in our lounge, 4 heavily armed men smashed into our home. They smashed their way through a plate glass sliding door. They came in with an R4 rifle, a pump action shotgun and various small arms. The first guy through the door with the R4 definitely had military training as he swept the room with the weapon up and ready. They smashed the sliding door with a bolt cutters that they had used to cut through our fences. They fortunately didnt have enough time to hurt us as I managed to get away and run through to our dressing room and notify the Farmer who’s farm we live on. He sounded the alarm and let off 2 rounds and they disappeared. They did in the short time they were in the house take our TV, a laptop cellphone and my husbands wallet.I must say that the farmers that responded were here within minutes and the police not far behind – the police that responded to us were amazing – I cannot complain about their response. Our farm has been hit 3 times in the last month and the neighboring farms have also been hit in this time as well. The K9 unit assisted with the farmers watch in our area managed to track these guys all the way through the nine farms they cut their way through and then through northern farms – and into Diepsloot. They at one stage almost had them but thses guys seemed to know alot about bushcraft and managed to evade them. Once in the township they disapeared. the next night our neighbors were hit. To date no one has been hurt but I feel its only a matter of time as they seem to be getting bolder. As I said its been a week since it happened and we are still severely traumatized by it. Tonight we are looked in our bedroom praying that they dont come past this way again. I can say that I will never ever feel safe again. I have been through other armed robberies as well as mugging and rape but this was just the cherry on the top and my last illusion of being safe has been taken away. This country has totally lost their control on law and order and crime is just a norm these days. I dont think anyone of us can say we havent in some way been affected by crime. All I can say is that God was watching and spared our lives – and for that we are grateful. The trick is to know go on from here and learn to live with constant fear. What does one do – try to leave – to where – I have lived overseas and really once a South African always one – this country is in our blood and we will never be able to settle elsewhere. Then again why should we have to! I was never part of the old “regime” or the old way of thinking but based on my colour I am now a bad person. Double standards if anything. So much for democracy and equality! The new “regime” are hellbent on punishing every white person for the past. I guess we are either going to have to live with what is happening or leave (From a deaply sad traumatised and disappointed patriotic south African).
