Scotland. Pure bloods, fellow mud bloods and muggles. Many of you have been asking my opinion, so, for what its worth, here it is. If I had a vote, I would vote NO. My mum is Scottish, my dad is Indian, I am English. I have lived and worked (albeit patchily) in England, Scotland and Wales. Even as a child, I could never understand why we (The English) supported Scotland at football, but this was not reciprocated. We even supported Ireland! I am British and proud of our history of social inclusion, proud of our diversity and in a weird, semi masochistic way, Im proud that people are queuing up in Calais to try to make a better life here. You may scoff at our recent history of social justice, but please compare it to that of other countries. Perversely, I think that if this is 100% about self determination or identity, you should all vote YES. There will be a period of uncertainty WHATEVER the result. However, do you think that your post 2015 politicians will be any less self serving than the ones in Westminster now? I also think its extremely selfish of you to damn the rest of us to an eternity of Tory governance. I will be extremely sad if the result is YES. I have visited Scotland from age 4 1/2, my mother was born there, my maternal grandparents were born and died there and I lived there for nigh on 15 years. I will tell you now, that contrary to what you may think, the English do not want the result to be YES. This should be a vote from the heart. If you follow your heart, you cannot go wrong and no-one can critcise you. Sentimental bullshit? Maybe, but there are no economic certainties either, so voting on an economic basis is equally as stupid as voting on a sentimental one. Follow your hearts. I did not write this to provoke discussion or response, so no comments please, unless they further the Harry Potter characterisation.
