Scottish Dream Tours Are you an “Ugly Tourist”? The term was coined as “Ugly American”, but it is in no way country specific! Do need to have everything just the same way when traveling as you do when you are at home? If you can’t adapt to the way people do things in another country, then you are an ugly tourist! Do you look for the nearest McDonalds rather than sampling the native foods and trying the national dish? Do you make disparaging remarks about the national dish? Then you are an ugly tourist! Upon entering a restaurant, do you look around to see what the locals are doing or how they are behaving first or do you just assume they don’t mind if you are loud and obnoxious? If you do not, you are an ugly tourist! Do you ever say “well, in the States, or Canada or wherever you are from, they do it this way”? If you do, then you are an ugly tourist! Do you complain about showers, faucet taps, toilet flushers or anything else that might be a little different than what you are used to? Then you are an ugly tourist! Do you complain about bed sizes, top sheets as opposed to comforters, pillows or bedding? If you do, then you are an ugly tourist! Do you try to change breakfast times, dinner times or the way a meal is served? Yes, you guessed it, you are an ugly tourist! I meet so many people who want everything exactly the same way when traveling as they have it at home. This is so strange to me because I love to travel to learn new things and to see how other people do things. Most holidays are about two weeks long and I believe, you can do anything for two weeks! Remember when traveling that you are an ambassador of your country and should represent it in the very best way that you can! Happy traveling!!
