Screening my film Bikpela Bagarap (Big Damage) in 2011 at the Anûû-rû âboro Film Festival in a small village in New Caledonia/Kanaky. It was a brilliant opportunity to show a film about resource exploitation in the Pacific, to an audience in New Caledonia - a small island in the Pacific, which unbelievably is the 5th largest producer of nickel in the world (which happens to be mined mainly by foreign companies.) In our modern and crazy world of social media, posts, tweets, Facebook, Youtube and instant gratification, it is easy to forget that this is what it is all about ... showing and telling real stories to real people. (Note - I do totally understand and appreciate the irony ... that I am posting this on Facebook!)
