Scripting is common amongst people with autism. Scripting in autism, can be defined variously but generally refers to the ability to repeat phrases or single words many times over. For example the words and phrases from a movie line or favorite cartoon. Because my sons are autism brothers and they understand each other so well they script complex scenes from their favorite shows together. Notice how they sometimes fill in the others line if its not perfect. They also switch roles. In this case the scene from Word World where Sheep is the nanny & Dog is the baby. Some psychologist suggest that scripting be discouraged. I say, heck no. Look how happy it makes my boys! I dont need to make my sons appear more normal so that the world can be more comfortable with them. What do you think? Should scripting be discouraged?
