Scripture: Exodus 32:2-5 Scripture Reading: “Aaron answered - TopicsExpress

Scripture: Exodus 32:2-5 Scripture Reading: “Aaron answered them, ‘Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.’ So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’ When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, ‘Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.’” Thought: Aaron is the High Priest! Certainly he’ll put a stop to this, right? Wrong. Aaron decides that he’ll try to satisfy both man AND God. He has a foot in each world. He wants to build an idol that will satisfy the people and have a festival to the Lord. Aaron breaks the first two commandments here (have no other gods, make no images), and in the end, no one was satisfied and God was furious. In order to please God, sometimes we have to let people down. In the end, pleasing God is the only thing that will satisfy us. You can’t serve both God’s and man’s values at the same time. At some point you are going to have to choose whom you will serve. Reflection 1: Do you ever feel like you live two lives: one to please God and one to please yourself? Reflection 2: What is one area in your life where you need to be all in with God’s plan? In doing so, who will you let down and what will be lost/gained by this? Contributor: Kevin Edelbrock
