Scripture says, no one can forgive sins except God, and right they are, because Scripture identifies Blasphemy as when a person, an individual claims to forgive sin. Is there a religious power on earth that claims to be able to forgive sins? We saw where the Papal power claims to be God on earth; does the Papal power claim to forgive sins also? We will see as we look at the other identification points as we continue our study, “The Anti-christ Kingdom Part 2, #14. Again, I want to make it perfectly clear, I am not talking about people. Do not take what I say and apply it to individuals. If you do that, you are not making the right application, because that beast represents a power, a system, it does not represent individuals. There are a many, many, many within this particular religious persuasion that are beautiful Christian people that love the Lord dearly, and if you apply it in that manner, you are doing jeopardy to the word of God. But does that power claim to have power to forgive sin? Baltimore Catechism, Kreuzer Brothers, 1876, There is a man on earth who can forgive sins, and that man is the Catholic Priest. Yes, beloved brethren, the priest not only declares that the sinner is forgiven, but he really forgives him., This says a man, a priest has the power to forgive a person of their sins. My friends, there are many, many more examples such as I have read. Blasphemy is to claim the prerogatives of God. John 10:33, and when one examines the quotations cited, there is no question that this religious power had spoken great words against the Most High, blasphemed God. Identification mark #6 as found in Revelation 13:7, It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them., In Daniel 7:25: He shall wear out the saints. This statement applies to this religious power yes, but does not apply to just this religious power. Anytime in history a Church, it doesnt matter what Church it is, has taken State power, it has persecuted the people. The Church is not capable of handling State power. State power can never be placed in the hands of a Church, no matter the name of the Church. Why?, Because it doesnt matter what Church it is, they believe what they believe to be the truth, and if you dont believe like they do, then they are going to persecute you. That has always happened. Try preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in Israel and see how far you get. Israel is a Church power. The Papacy, a religeo-political power had supreme power during the dark ages, 538 to 1798 A.D., and they persecuted. The Pope asked forgiveness for this persecution a few years ago. Continuing in verse 7, Rev.13, And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. From the book, The Death Penalty for Heresy, p.24, by G.G. Coulton, Morally, they believed themselves to be saving thousands of souls by the burning of a single heretic. Politically, they believed, it possible, by sufficiently, persistent and ruthless persecution, to extinguish heresy altogether. The people were persecuted because of their personal beliefs. We will look at the remaining 2 marks of identification as we continue our study of the Anti-christ, and see if the remaining 2 marks fit this power, the first beast of Rev. 13. We will also look at what is known in history as the Roman Question.
