Scripture teaches that Jesus humbled Himself — though equal with God in all ways, He willingly lowered Himself for our sakes, as I just pointed out in a post yesterday — and now as a result He is exalted and glorified forever! Indeed, this is just one passage that shows the Father is glorified through the Son — by Christ being worshiped, glorified and magnified for who He truly is (and always was, of course, as God the Father says to Him, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,” Heb. 1:8). In the message I heard this morning at church, the pastor spoke on this same passage that I posted out of Philippians 2 (turns out it’s his favorite passage from his favorite book in the Bible): “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The pastor gave a great teaching which really shed light on this, because it’s easy to say, “Well, Jesus is God and I’m not,” and think such humility is beyond us. But as he noted, the passage opens by instructing, “Let this mind be in you...” which tells us He will change, equip and enable us! Interestingly enough, that was yesterdays Our Daily Bread, “The Power to Change,” which reads in part: “Paul was a first-century innovator who traveled throughout Asia Minor telling people how they could be transformed by faith in Jesus Christ. To the Christians in Rome Paul wrote, ‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think’ (Rom. 12:2). He urged them to give themselves fully to God (v.1). In a self-centered, greedy, and grasping world, Paul nurtured and mentored them in how to live a Christ-centered, giving life. Jesus, the Great Innovator, offers all of these and invites us to experience a new and different life in Him.” Closing Prayer: “I’m thankful for the ways You’re changing me, Lord. Help me to be open to You and to cooperate with Your work in me. Transform me to be like You. Closing Note: God takes us as we are but never leaves us that way.” Anyway, suffice it to say it was another wonderful weekend in the Lord and with the family at FM Church and the Hawley Train Show — Im starting to become something of an expert on trains! LOL!
