Scripture: ...the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD: Is 11: 1-10 God’s life-giving spirit brings wisdom, understanding and hope to those committed to a culture of dialogue. God’s spirit gives direction and builds strength. It instills knowledge and maturity to those who are committed to the up-liftment of the common good. God’s spirit builds bridges where there are rifts. The Lord’s decisions on the earth’s poor and the marginalized convey justice. God brings harmony out of disharmony. The uniting spirit of God is proclaimed in Isaiah with great anticipation to what awaits us if we are open to let this spirit permeate into our hearts. Isaiah writes that the wolf will romp with the Lamb; the leopard will sleep with the kid. Calf and lion will eat from the same trough and a little child will tend them. Cow and bear will graze the same pasture, their calves and cubs will grow up together, and lion eat straw like ox. The nursing child will crawl over rattlesnake dens and the toddler sticks his hand down the hole of a serpent. Indeed it is only the Lord who can create opportunities out of the impossible. Only the Lord can convert sworn enemies into mutual friends. With God’s blessing of Love, let us all be committed to bringing love not only to those within our boundaries of faith, but to those beyond our confines. By Fr Gilbert Banda, SJ
