Season look ahead: Manchester United. So after last seasons - TopicsExpress

Season look ahead: Manchester United. So after last seasons debacle under The Chosen One we have seen Louis Van Gaal take the reins at Old Trafford. The man exudes confidence and faith in his own ability. A stark contrast to the man before him who appeared like a rabbit in the headlights. Bringing with him a list of success most managers could only dream of, it has to be presumed LVG is the man for the job to steady the ship and bring some successful outcomes back to the Red Devils. With a new formation and total shake up of the systems (down to the players meals) it looks like LVG has put his stamp on the team from day 1. He has retained Ryan Giggs as Assistant Gaffer, a clever move by all accounts, with Giggs knowledge, history and popularity in the club. The signings have been far quieter than first presumed, but thats not to say between here and close of business that there wont be more deals done. However the 2 brought in look to be too acquisitions. Shaw is young, has PL experience and is hotly topped to be Englands next permanent LB. An exciting player who has an eye for going forward. Herrera looks like he could have that touch of class the midfield was lacking. Excellent passer of the ball with great vision, and not afraid to stick the boot in. With a rejuvenated Ashley Young, an on form Rooney in preseason and an all round happier look about the place, it appears as if LVG has already brought back the confidence. Its apparent that LVG will be trialling some of our youth system players, something we have been crying out for since Fergies Fledglings. Adnan Januzaj already well established in the team, will now hopefully see company from the youth from the likes of Tom Lawrence, Reece James, James Wilson and Jesse Lingaard (my tip for success). The departure of some old faces, in the form of Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, has reduced some of the experience valued in the structure, and although its sad to see them go, their time had come. This should allow for Shaw, Jones, Evans/Smalling to flourish with extended game time. You would expect to see a much more tactically aware side this season, with an exciting formation and the sparks of creativity provided by Juan Mata and co, firepowering the vision of a manager not afraid to make massive decisions at crucial times. Quite possibly some more players to exit OT before game day, with Felaini being one mentioned after a disasterous first season, Cleverly after a disasterous life and Shinji Kagawa, the eternally forgotten number 10 all possible exits. Arturo Vidal has been bought, turned down and generally pimped by his agent and every newspaper since the end of the season, and Mats Hummels is another name being flogged to death. Kevin Strootman has also had a noteworthy mention as a possible target. One thing for sure, this season will see a different United side to that seen before, under new guidance and in a new style. As a fan we can only be hopeful that this radical change can be for the better! Predicted finish: Top 4 (Ill let James do the Liverpool pre season report)
