Job Description and Hiring Process Attached Date Posted: March 26, 2014 Revised: February 25, 2014 Page 1 of 1 JOB DESCRIPTION SEASONAL OPERATOR - PUBLIC WORKS DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES This is routine manual labor and maintenance work in a variety of Public Works functions. An employee in this class works seasonally for a defined period of time during the calendar year. The employee may also perform routine or repetitive tasks without supervision. This employee will spend most of his time operating equipment. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of worked performed) • Operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to tractors, power mowers and small powered tools and equipment. • Assists with water and sewer maintenance activities, including but not limited to performing routine manual labor tasks. • Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Graduation from accredited high school or its equivalent; or any combination of experience and training, which will provide the minimum qualifications • Must possess a current, valid Michigan Drivers License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; ie. Convictions or reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking an impaired driving. • Ability to drive a van or truck. • Work experience operating power equipment such as mowers, tractors, or other equipment. • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse climatic conditions. • Ability to communicate effectively and establish good working relationships with the public and other employees. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Some knowledge of hand and power tools and ability to use those tools properly and safely. • This is an “At-Will” position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at anytime due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.
