Second grade students at Seven Gen were studying Pennsylvania - TopicsExpress

Second grade students at Seven Gen were studying Pennsylvania forests this fall and became concerned about the declining number of American Kestrels in our area. They decided to do something about it. The 54 students in the three second grade classes held a pizza lunch and bake sale fundraiser to raise money to purchase 12 nesting box kits from Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. With the help and guidance of parent volunteers, student teams constructed the nesting boxes at school. The students are in the process of drafting a letter to local farmers seeking homes for their nesting boxes. They are hoping that their efforts will help increase the number of kestrels by providing additional nesting sites in the area. This is the second consecutive year that Seven Generations students have undertaken this project.
