Secret courts have no place in a free democracy. Justice must be seen to be done and no public institution should be beyond public scrutiny and accountability. It would be one thing if the reason for the secrecy really was to protect the identities of the innocent but, it isnt. We all know that these proceeding are kept secret to protect the state, usually in the form of social services, from being held to account for their incompetence and failures. Some of the decisions that have been made behind closed doors and subsequently exposed have been outrageous.
