Security Alert – Identity Fraud To help safeguard - TopicsExpress

Security Alert – Identity Fraud To help safeguard colleagues’ personal information, please be aware of two scams that are attempting to defraud UK residents – particularly in the run up to Christmas. If you receive a call from one of the following numbers, on either or personal or work mobile display screen, do not answer. +800 0488 803, +1 (630) 529 5537, or; +1 (234) 567 891. Operators behind these numbers are using bogus insurance claim tactics to target your personal details (incl. bank details). A common tactic is to encourage recipients to part with sensitive information by way of prompting them to ‘pass 3-4 security questions’. In a further attempt to acquire people’s personal information, fraudsters are hiding behind fake notification emails from, reportedly, a number of well-known UK high street banks and building societies. In a number of cases, recipients are being lulled into a false sense of security when prompted to potentially fraudulent transactions, and asked to sign up to a free text alert service. This all forms part of the data gathering process. See attached example (screen print). Next Steps: If you suspect that someone is phishing for, or has obtained your personal information without your consent, report it to the Action Fraud Police on 0300 123 2040 (text phone: 0300 123 2050). Alternatively, go to: actionfraud.police.uk for more information. Please advise your colleagues accordingly. Thank you.
