Security and safety of Kashmiri youth, studying or working in - TopicsExpress

Security and safety of Kashmiri youth, studying or working in various parts of the country, has once again become a cause of deep concern. On Sunday the news about death of Parvez Ahmed Teli of Kalamdanpora, Srinagar, in Mumbai sent shock waves in and around the city. It triggered protests and clashes in some parts of the city. The slain youth, who was working as a salesman for past eight years in Goa, had gone missing at Mumbai bus station when he was about to embark upon a bus. Three days after his body was found near gate of a suburban railway station. In another incident Abid Ahmed, 2 1, from Ganderbal studying at Faizani Madin, an Islamic Institution, in Ahmadabad was found dead in Udaipur area of Rajasthan on Sunday morning. Ostensibly, the two incidents are not connected but there seems a pattern connecting them, calling for a thorough investigation not only by the police of the concerned states, but also by the J&K state police. The two incidents have worried thousands of parents whose children are studying in various colleges and universities in the country. These have also added to the anxiety of hundreds of families whose members are trading in different cities outside the state. It is not for the first time that Kashmiri youth have been targeted outside the state. Scores of such stories from various states have earlier been reported in newspapers. There have been instances when fellow students under the guise of ragging or some other pretext have targeted students from the valley and some areas of Jammu province, and made some of the students abandon their education halfway. Equally, there have been instances when police in some states framed Kashmiri youth in different cases to be exonerated by courts after suffering incarceration for many years. The state Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on more than one occasion wrote to Union Home Minister and Chief Ministers of other states for ensuring safety of the youth of our state but it seems a message is yet to get across. It is high time for Prime Minister to impress upon the state Chief Ministers for ensuring safety of youth from Jammu and Kashmir
