Security officer dies in brutal attack WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. A security officer on duty at a suburban New York YMCA was attacked, beaten and killed during a murder-suicide that residents called bloody and police called bizarre. White Plains authorities confirmed that after the suspect attacked the security officer in the lobby of the YMCA 250 Mamaroneck Ave and then went to his third floor room and started a fire which took firefighters more than two hours to bring under control. White Plains police Commissioner David Chong confirmed that the attacker lived at the YMCA and had at one time been an employee. Residents of the YMCA said they heard a man screaming for help and soon afterwards the fire alarms began to sound. “I just ran down the stairs and got past the mailbox and the vending machine. There was blood by the elevator, and as soon as I got by the front desk, I looked over the counter, and the guard “was a real mess” said Barry, a resident. Octavius Wallace rents a room a few doors down from the alleged suspect he had just returned home when the fire broke out. I got up looked out the door and there was thick black smoke coming toward me and the hallway was heated and it was hot,” he said. Wallace described a panicked scene. “The dude was screaming for his life. You could hear him screaming throughout the whole building,” he said. Resident Barry characterized the man who allegedly started the fire as very argumentative, and thinking he knows more than everyone else. The guard was just the opposite, sweet and kind residents agreed. White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong said autopsies will be performed on both dead males and the apparent murder-suicide remains an active investigation. Six firefighters were treated for minor injuries at White Plains Hospital as they fought the blaze, officials told the Journal News.
