Seek Daily NBC Tuesday, December 9 1 Kings 8: 54-62 DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THE LORD Let your heart therefore be loyal to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments. 1 Kings 8:61, KJV After a session of prayer and supplication unto the Lord, King Solomon stood before the congregation of Israel to bless them (verses 54-55) and challenge them to an upright walk before the Lord. First, he acknowledged God’s faithfulness in keeping His promise to give the people rest, as he said through Moses, His servant. Then, he prayed for God’s continued presence and interest in the affairs of the people (verses 57-59). This, according to Solomon, would serve as a proof to the whole world that the Lord is God; there is no other (v 60). The wise one, nevertheless, identified devotion to God as the basis for them to enjoy His promises. The challenge to us today is: (1) We must be loyal to the Lord our God; (2) walk in His statues; and (3) keep His commandments (v 61). Obedience is important in enjoying God’s promises. Though the year is almost ended, that promise He made to you can still come to pass. Just obey Him. • Birthday Blessing: “For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Psalm 107:9 Read Bible Through Passage: Hosea 7, 8, 9; Revelation 1. The true follower of Christ will not ask, If I embrace this truth, what will it cost me? Rather he will say, This is truth. God help me to walk in it, let come what may! - A.W. Tozer
