Seems so sad that the problems that young Black men are having may have more to do with their relationship with themselves, their relationship with others outside of themselves, and with powers greater than themselves because if one is out of sync then they all are. Low self esteem can turn to inflated ego, and eventually breaking rules set in place by their families, social institutions, and God. So many of them see success as starting from a prison cell rather than a college classroom, because in the media they respect gives them those images rather than that of scientists, engineers, doctors, and lawyers, while even good parents without such in their backgrounds are ill-prepared to help bridge that gap and are unwilling to push these boys into activities such as scouting instead of sports. Think of how many young Black boys at age 5-14 dream of being in the NBA though they are short overweight and spend too much time playing video games while those who dream of a life of success away from athletics tend to further their educations. Frankly I am tired of hearing the sad, sad stories of Black boys gone bad and want to hear more of the ones building robots, tinkering with higher math, in flight schools, mastering physics, or designing satellites, housing communities, and green eco-systems. End the curse of praising the aspects of our being only a few can achieve.
