Seems the papers and the usual scaremongering Facebook - TopicsExpress

Seems the papers and the usual scaremongering Facebook pages/websites are at it again.....lets clear things up a bit and see whats really going to happen. *Britain is NOT on a red alert for a catastrophic snow event this week. *Britain is NOT to be hit by a detached Polar Vortex (polar vortex is something the media and these people misuse to get Jo public to buy and read their articles). *We are NOT seeing a repeat of winter 2010. *We ARE in for a cold spell which looks to bring some snow causing some disruption across the country but there are no signs its going to last 6 weeks. *Over the pond, the Eastern Seaboard of the US is in for a nasty, possibly historic weather event which will bring heavy snowfall, gale force winds and blizzard conditions to over 7 states in the Northeast of the country including New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The myth that the UK sees the same kind of snow 7 days, 2 weeks, a month after they do over in the US is simply just a myth. Its not true! Now thats cleared things up a bit. Lets have quick look at the forecast for the region this week. Today looks to be settled, mostly dry with sunny spell and daytime temperatures hovering around 6°C. Tomorrow we will see more cloud accompanied by light showers throughout the day. Clearing in the East later on in the afternoon. Daytime Temperatures around 7°C During the course of Wednesday a cold front will push in from the West, noticeably dropping temperatures but also bringing the risk of rain, sleet and snow showers. Also developing through the day will be a strong Northwesterly wind. With the strength of the wind (50+mph gusts in exposed areas, 30-40mph gusts elsewhere) and the nature of these showers we could see some blizzard conditions developing in certain areas. Mostly higher exposed parts. Thursday looks to be very cold indeed with a strong Northwesterly wind still pulling that cold air all the way down from Greenland. It looks to be another day of sleet and snow showers with some possible blizzard conditions developing over higher ground once again. Friday looks to be another cold, windy day but snow and sleet showers will be more scattered and less intense than what we will see on Wednesday and Thursday. ......................................................................................... Me or Jon will be back either this evening or tomorrow with a much more detailed forecast for Yorkshire but I thought I would just give you a brief explanation of what we are looking at. In the meantime if you see a weather headline in the newspaper that warns of a catastrophic weather event this week......throw it in the bin because the rest of the storys in there are probably a load of Bull too.
