Self-Portrait #52: Mid-Century Modern Meets MS This lamp assemblage represents my diagnosis and beginning of educating about what MS is. Healthy neurons with myelin sheath intact, play along the base of the lamp. MRI slides--slices of my brain--comprise the shade, laced together with frayed speaker wire, a metaphor for the de-myelation MS causes. A shimmering brain tops it off. Swedish MS Center has put on a beautiful show, and I made the piece especially for it. Claire Johnson did an amazing job of designing a space that really honors and showcases all the art, done mostly by people with MS.
