Selling not earning…Grandma wins hearts online One dime ($0.02) could be enough to buy a popsicle or more snacks in #China in the 1990s, but now they will only be dropped in penny jars as inflation has been tenfold over the past two decades. A 67-year-old #grandmother in Nanchang city, east China’s Jiangxi Province, however, has kept the price of the #snacks she sells at one dime for 20 years. The snacks are sold at one dime each after being stringed with toothpicks. They mainly include fried #beancurd and vegetables, which are flavored with soy, sesame oil, or pepper. After Cheng Yingqing’s story was reported by local media on Friday, She became an instant Internet sensation. Many local people have visited her stall to buy snacks and to show respect. How much does she earn every day? According to a report from local media Jiangxi News, she used to earn 10 yuan ($1.63) a day and as the number of visitors increased, her income has risen to 30 yuan ($4.9). “My customers are familiar about this price. They really care about my business, and (I will be satisfied) as long as I can earn a little,” Cheng told Jiangxi News. As a matter of fact, Cheng and her family have been living a poor life. Her husband is sick and the couple lives with their 30-year-old son in a 10-square-meter home. They get by only with a monthly subsidy of 1,000 yuan ($163) from the local government. Internet users are now appealing for donations for this kind-hearted ‘one-dime #Grandma’.
