Seminar on “The Dynamics of Elite Politics in Pakistan” at Pakistan Study Centre Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar organized a one-day Seminar on “The Dynamics of Elite Politics in Pakistan: Analyzing the Function of Power Structure and the Process of Change”. Prof. Dr. Ghulam Qasim Marwat, Director Higher Education Training Academy Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was key note speaker. Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam presided over the function. In his hour-long presentation, Dr. Ghulam Qasim Marwat identified elite classes of Pakistani politics which included landlords, industrialists, religious icons, civil and military bureaucracy. He said these groups coordinate and cooperate with each other in order to clinch to power. These groups are closer to the centre of power. The rest of groups i.e. middle class, industrial and agriculture workers dance to their tunes. He said that democracy in Pakistan has two facets (1) Theoretical (2) Practical. Theoretically speaking, the constitution of Pakistan guarantees equality before law and other socio-political rights to all citizens. However, in reality, only elite classes are brokers of power and blessings of democracy do not trickle down to common man. He said this gape can be removed with universilization of education, political awareness and ensuring speedy and inexpensive justice. The presentation was followed by question answer session. With vote of thanks from Dr. Fakhr-ul-Islam, the seminar was thereafter concluded.
