Sen. Ed Markey (D - Mass) says, The coal companies should have seen this coming. He further says that they need to innovate their way out of this. Whats he talking about? The EPA has issued clean air standards that dictate the closure of 100% of coal fired power plants by the end of 2017. The coal and power companies say the technology to meet the new EPA standards promulgated under Obama does not exist. Obama said back in 2008 that he intended to shut down the US coal industry. Once the last of these plants closes the US will have lost 40% of its electrical power. Dont know about you, but this EPA regulation seems counter-productive to me.
