Senate 2015: Peter Obi Dumps APGA, Declares For PDP - TopicsExpress

Senate 2015: Peter Obi Dumps APGA, Declares For PDP Tommorow After months of speculation about the political future of the immediate past governor of Anambra state, Chief Peter Obi, and persistent speculation of his likely dumping of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), it would now be confirmed he has concluded plans to do so. This was confirmed by Obi through his Media Assistant, Mr Valentine Obienyem in Awka yesterday. However, Obienyem put it differently, pointing out that Obi was scheduled to play host to PDP stakeholders in his Onitsha GRA lodge today. They were coming to woo him to join the PDP family. The move, sources close to the former governor disclosed, was to enable him ventilate his desire to contest the 2015 Senatorial race for the Anambra Central, the same constituency that his longtime political associate and national chairman of the APGA, Chief Victor Umeh was gunning for under APGA. With the development, the political imbroglio between Obi on one hand and Umeh/Anambra Gov Willie Obiano on the other would have shifted to a new turf. It would then be left for the one with the mightier financial muscle. In that case, while Obi who was reported to be richer than the state would stretch Umeh/Obiano to the limit, Umeh/ Obiano in turn would do everything possible to floor Obi at least to prove a point. Obis desire to dump APGA had been on the political horizon of the state for so long. Many have accused him of what they referred to as political recklessness’. But others also saw it as a lifesaving move to clutch unto the slightest and thinnest opportunity to remain relevant anyhow, not minding what people say. It was said he lost so much of his ego and baseless hype when virtually all reasonable indigenes of the state rose in unison to thump President Goodluck Jonathan down on the initial moves to appoint Obi a Minister. They had allegedly recounted how he lavished moneys meant to develop the state in lavishly patronizing every conceivable person he suspects would stand against his future as if he was spending his personal funds. They fumed that records show he spent billions of the state funds between Dec 14, 2013 and March 14,2014-just days to his departure. Also these and many other issues made them stand firmly against his avid ambition to join the Federal cabinet. The Presidency, reports noted, then charged him to go and reconcile with his brothers/sisters so as to ensure he would not create problems for the reelection train of Jonathan when it berths in the South East Zone, pointing out how strategic and important the zone is to the President. Again, that everyone knows that Anambra points the direction for all States in the zone. They accused Obi of eying the membership of the cabinet for so long and that was why he refused to endorse Chief Emeka Onuorah as a replacement for the former Minister of Information, when she was dropped. He also refused to approve nomination of any other as a replacement for Princess Stella Oduah when she also resigned for the Jonathan cabinet. Obi was equally accused of subtly alienating all males from the state whose appointment needed his endorsement. He chose to back women so that he would remain the only Anambra son with free entry and exit to Aso Rock. So the opportunity to teach him a lesson came with the Ministerial appointment and every who is who in the state spoke emphatically to Jonathan to drop Obi or risk losing the support of the whole five states in the zone. They alleged that Obi know only himself and no other.
