Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid responded in typical fashion: “Today’s vote by House Republicans is pointless. As I have said repeatedly, the Senate will reject any Republican attempt to force changes to the Affordable Care Act through a mandatory government funding bill or the debt ceiling. Furthermore, President Obama has stated that he would veto such measures if they ever reached his desk.” In other words, it’s the Democrats’ way or the highway, even though the House of Representatives has the Constitutional authority to originate spending bills, and to oversee the power of the purse. As the increasingly costly and unpopular law continues to wreak havoc on the economy, the GOP has to ask itself if the general public needs to see up-close-and-personal what’s in the Obamacare bill (or even be aware of its existence) in order to oppose it. The CBO projects that the Obamacare bill will add a trillion to the debt by 2020, without steps like rationing. It will cause premiums to skyrocket, and employers to cut back hours. And the CBO and numerous think tanks project that 30 million still won’t be insured by the end of the decade. Maybe allowing the Democrats to crush the middle class is not the worst political maneuver ever?
