Senate convenes tomorrow to discuss governor Chepkwony THE Senate convenes tomorrow for yet another special sitting to consider the proposal by Kericho assembly to sack Governor Paul Chepkwony. This will be the second such sitting in as many weeks following last weeks impeachment of Martin Wambora by the senate. The MCAs to remove Chepkwony from office over alleged abuse of office and flouting procurement rules. He is also accused of unlawfully procuring or permitting procurement of goods and services without following due process contrary to the Public Procurement and Disposal Act. At least 32 MCAs present in the House voted in favour of the impeachment in a motion that was boycotted by 15 others. The governor is also faulted for violating the provision of the County Government Act and Public Procurement Act on grants and donations and failing to follow due process regarding public and private partnerships. The law gives the senate ten days to investigate the MCAs proposal for Chepkwonys and report back to the House for determination. Yesterday, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale told the Star the Senate will have to be recalled as there is no option. He said the process is time bound and the senate will have to make determination this week. “We have not received any formal communication from the House leadership but due to the nature of the matter at hand we expect to have a special sitting on Tuesday,” he said. #TSK
