Senator Gudex Applauds Announcement of Lifting Moratorium on Historic Preservation Tax Credit Madison—Today, Governor Walker announced that the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) will lift the moratorium on the successful and popular Historic Preservation Tax Credit. This past session, the Wisconsin Legislature was successful in expanding the Wisconsin Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program. It was recently announced that in the first six months of 2014 thirty five million dollars in tax credits had been approved, leveraging $112 million in qualified rehabilitation expenses by developers. “I am happy that developers will continue to invest in our historic buildings across the state. It is extremely important that developers know that they can continue to move their projects forward with this recent announcement. At the same time, we need to be good stewards of taxpayer’s money, and taking a break to collect additional information is the responsible thing to do. This legislation is an example of one of the many bi-partisan bills that passed out of the State Senate this past session. An effort to reinvest and grow our economy, this tax credit program creates some certainty for job creators by giving them confidence to hire, expand, and grow right here in Wisconsin,” said State Senator Rick Gudex (R-Fond du Lac). ###
